The Most Important Bitcoin Denominations
A bitcoin (BTC) is most commonly expressed in one of three denominations:
- bitcoin – BTC – (1 bitcoin)
- millibitcoin – mBTC – (1 thousandth of a bitcoin)
- microbitcoin – uBTC – (1 millionth of a bitcoin)
Additionally, there is a fourth, much smaller denomination called a “satoshi” which is equal to a one hundred millionth of a single bitcoin (0.00000001 BTC). There is no established currency symbol for a satoshi although it is sometimes abbreviated to sat or simply s.
